Greetings Everyone, or Anyone!,

I feel like I have just wandered into a long deserted but once thriving community. No new posts since April 2008 yet the most number of people ever on-line here was back in October 2007, just 6 months before.

The site is still kind of working but kind of broken. A record of a period of history but one hard to sift through. I wonder if the 'Forum' is rapidly becoming a part of internet history with other social spaces taking hold.

There is is a wealth of great stuff here, some wonderful thinking and great ideas so perhaps its a good thing it remains as a tribute to Phil's generosity and to the many others who have toiled here. Just like an old archeological dig you never know what you might uncover.

So to all you innovation archaeologists and anthropologists that follow, ... welcome to the dig!

I am to blame. I did some mods to the forum so it would not be spammed and that broke new user registration. I don't know how to upgrade to a new version. If anyone knows how to upgrade phpbb or migrate to SMF or BBpress, let Phil or I know.

I'm a little saddened by the fact that these forums have apparently died. Where is everyone sharing now? Just in the comments of the blog?

Well, here are some interesting innovations that have crossed my eyes lately.

First, courtesy of Guy Kawasaki is a clever solution to a critical problem. The Play Pump uses the power of children playing to pump water in places where it would normally not be practical.

The second solves a slightly less critical problem. Spray-Right 360 degree spray bottles provide a ridiculously obvious solution to something that has annoyed people for a long time.

Yes, I held something like this for ideas to remove product annoyances. The key was to focus the ideas on specific annoyances and then challenge them. I did it as a competition with a reward for the ideas judged the best by an independent group. This generated a lot of ideas, and since them teams reviewing similar ideas have been looking for the best combinations and the best path to implementation

It may work. I all depends on the corporate culture and the employee's desire for the company to succeed. Senior MGRS must pose questions, also provide feedback, and reward for participation. I work at a firm of 80,000+ and tried to do something similar once. It failed. I plan on attempting again, but am going to try to target smaller segments to gain momentum.

Hi

I am working on a research project on industry clusters.
(For example Silicon Valley and Hollywood)

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_cluster

What I am looking for are companies that have set up an office in a
industry cluster, and someone who knows why they did it. Perhaps
someone in HR, strategy or someone who runs the office.

Do you know anyone I could talk to?
Or do you want to post your answers here?

Questions I'm interested in:

1. What were the driving forces on the company before setting up in the cluster?
2. Why choose an industry cluster?
3. What were the results of setting up in the cluster?
- advantages
- disadvantages

Thanks

Steve

Subject: Reverse Observation
Honestly, I see "market". I don't see what is present, I assume the crowd represents any market, anywhere. I can't assume their lifestyles, their genders, their preferences, their education, their experience.

What I do see are males and females in a sunny (summer) environment, amongst streets. So there's people, there's the environment, and the attraction could merely be for the reason of being amongst other people.

There is the possibility of food (a big crowd thing), music, entertainment, education. They might all share something similar. They might be getting it from eachother, or the location/event that might be serving them. The event/location might have a high or low frequency. It might be new, it might be something in progression. The location might not be relevant. It could be growing, it could be shrinking. It could have various other ways to be the same event.

More importantly, I see something that has potential to morph into something greater. It has a good turnout, as I'm assuming the people are all from a reasonable distance, and therefore it can create a metric of followers per "local region".

That's it off the top of my head.

I was struck by Nelson's post above. I have two very creative sons - and one of them has a learning disability. I have spent the better part of 4 years trying to counter balence the damage that comes from some rigid educators trying to box them in. Why are we still in the dark ages when it comes to creativity in education?

If you could design a creative curiculum for children from k-12 - what elements would be most significant?
Brainstorming techniques?
Prioritizing ideas for implementation?

On the flip side, what rewards have you seen that have a negative effect on innovators?
